Requirements for Divorce in N.C.

You can get a divorce in N.C. if you have been separated from your spouse for at least one year and at least one of you has lived in N.C. for the last 6 months. Remember that getting a divorce does end all rights to have marital property divided and it also ends any claims you might have to alimony. A divorce does not end your rights in child custody or for child support. If you meet the requirements and would like to move forward with getting your divorce, please feel free to contact our office. In most cases we can handle your uncontested, absolute divorce without you ever needing to go to court.

  1. Good information in your post about having to be separated a year in order to get divorced. Do you have to live in separate homes, or just consider yourself separated.
